i just wanted to start a bulleted list of dumb things that i like or notice. here it is:
* most days at 3 oclock it rains for a good 4-5 hours
* i have met only one other american, everybody is from europe and they we dont speak the the same english. i have learned words like- tat, half 8, popping your cloggs, dodgy, tosser, uni, tube pronounced like tchoob...
*fumey air 24 hours a day
*hardly anyone i have met knows anything about eduador´s history or politics
* reggaeton is the equivelant of gangsta rap
* rarely has anyone been inpatient with my slow and basic spanish
* i love the blasting of, blowing the speakers out music that resounds from tiendas and public transportation
*one day after school Anna y yo went to the supermarket. on the way there was a torential downpour started and i slipped on tile and fell flat on my ---. by the time we crossed the street we were drenched. we caught a cap out and the cabbie played john lee hooker and the blues sounded sooo good- it felt like my senses had suddenly become enhanced. i welled up with emotion.
* as a low-lander, altitude adjustment has taken ages. until recently, everyday had been a fight for clarity. i have been in a perpetual mental haze, foggy and processing thoughts took a bit of exertion. on and off my eyes are irritated, and seem to strain. in the morning walking to school my stomach feels like led. digestion is slowed, apparently. a few times i have delt with splitting headaches. i got a bad cold and with the help of grapeseed extract, whiskey with cinnamon, honey & lime and lots of coca tea- i have finally adjusted and the last couple of days, i am gaining energy and my happy meter is way up.
* exactly now, immagration police came into the internet cafe and asked me for my identification and date of arrival. good golly! its a bit of an adrenalin rush! i was thinking, my god, if my copied passport isnt good enough and they haul me away would they let me pee first? all´s well though!

Hi, Anna!
Snow has fallen in the passes and the snow boarders are getting ready for a fantastic season on the slopes. Rain, rain and then a bit of sun in the lowlands. Today sun. Foggy mornings and the crows are always busy squawking and talking. Just like the people below them, each carrying gossip, chatter and warnings: A storm may be coming or the food is not that good at Wendy's.
Sorry to hear you bruised your bum in a downpour. Got up and had some fun after all, didn't you? What is a "cap?"
Highlands. Wish I could join you. Ah, so you've learned to barter. That's a skill you might use back home as we're kinda running out of the green stuff. Back to hunting, gathering and trading dired cow pies and beads.
The dirty soot can be washed out of you eyes if you can find some baby shampoo and dilute with water and wash your eyes. That works on pollen, pollution and simple infections.
Do they use cayenee pepper there for colds as we do back in the US? Would that go well with whiskey, line and honey? Well, probably not. But in tea, yes.
What birds are you seeing and other signs of life not of the two footed variety?
Altitude. What a bummer. Great to hear you're adjusting.
We have our laughs here watching Sarah Palin describe the vice-president's jog as the same as the senate leader's job, and trying to figure out who is Tina Fey and who is Sarah Palin on SNL.
Catch you later,
mommamia
Golden hills and leaf strewn steets of fall leaves in the lowlands. Frost in the morning perks up the air. Time for sweaters and shoes with toes. Time to watch dogs chase leaves and their tails. One morning, the fog so dense I can't see an inch past my window. It's once again one of those falls, rain, but not too much. Just enough sun to wipe away thoughts of other darker, wetter Octobers.
I dream of you in an ocean of turbulent water, but it turns out, you slipped into a puddle. I make popcorn and wonder if Ecuador knows about buttery popcorn. I remember eating popcorn with you in the theatre and I think when you return you would like my new popcorn maker. Remember those popcorn balls? Peanut butter and marshmallow? Aren't they the best ones?
Your nephew has made a mail box for all of your mail. He's covered it in colored paper with designs for his Auntie Anna.
If you should ever call, I don't answer until I know who is on the line. And that is especially true now as robo calls are ushering out from McCain.
I wonder about your latest experiences. What are you doing? Are you happy? After all, it's been about one month since our Anna-Banana left for her latest adventure.
Hopefully, Tuesday will be Obama Day!
